2nd Project.

IAD Design Studio Year 2

The project involves the following 3 stages:
Research; Design Development & Proposal; Communication.

This project is centred around renovating the interior of the Public and Plants cafe in Nottingham to create a retail space that goes 'beyond the shopping experience' for the client Co-Op set 30 years in the future. While focusing on your chosen trends for the future and community. Students had to adhere to the building's Grade II listed status while focusing on sustainable material and furniture selection.

The Brief.

The Project 2 brief for the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design program challenged students to design the Co-op store of the future, set 30 years from now, at 11 Low Pavement. This project requires students to create a community-centered retail experience that honors the Co-op’s heritage while adapting to evolving consumer needs, focusing on trends like hyper-personalization, sustainability, or social connection. The project emphasizes research, design development, and communication, with specific deliverables including visual studies, sketch development, and orthographic drawings, aiming to enhance customer satisfaction and brand perception.

1st project.

IAD Design Studio Year 2

The project involves the following 3 stages:
Research; Design Development & Proposal; Communication.

This project is centred around renovating the interior of the Mammoth Climate Action Theatre in Nottingham to create a museum with tribute, reflection and community-building space as a homage to COVID-19 and my concept of 'the shape of home'.

The Brief.

The Project 1 brief for my Second Year BA (Hons) Interior Architecture & Design degree centres on creating a memorial design for a space that reflects on the collective impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Building on themes introduced in summer work, students are tasked to develop a concept that honours the pandemic’s historical significance and its varied impacts on society. Set at the historic ‘Mammoth’ site in Nottingham. The design requirements include an entryway, reflection area, tribute space, multipurpose community room, and restrooms. Emphasis is placed on thoughtful spatial organization to create an impactful, evocative atmosphere. This project supports the development of a socially aware, professional design approach and provides students an opportunity to define their design philosophy in a historically and socially relevant context.

3rd project.

IAD Design Studio Year 1

The project involves the following 3 stages:
Research Project Evaluation; Design Development; Design Proposal.

This project is centred around renovating the interior and exterior of the Loggia to meet modern needs while preserving its historical value. The main focus was developing conceptual ideas and designing an extension to the building.

The Brief.

The Project 3 brief for the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture &
Design program focuses on the design and development of a
craft workshop and retail space at The Loggia, a building on
the Kedleston Hall estate, the historic estate managed by the
National Trust. This synthesis project integrates knowledge acquired
throughout the year, requiring students to create a proposal
that includes a workshop for a chosen craft, my focus was art
restoration and conservation, alongside a visitor shop. The project
emphasizes the division of public and private spaces, accessibility,
and visitor experience, with specific spatial requirements outlined.
This project aimed to foster critical thinking and professional design
skills in relation to historical context and user engagement.

summer project.

IAD Design Studio Year 1 - 2

This project is centred around a chosen event, person or object as well as a chosen site. The chosen event, person or object became the concept for your designed folly, interior space or sculpture. The project was very flexible and personalised to each student.

The Brief.

The Summer Project, titled “Summer Transition: Evolving Memory
- Honouring the Past”, brief for the BA (Hons) Interior Architecture
& Design program focuses on the interplay between memory and
architecture by designing a small 3-meter by 3-meter architectural
folly, interior space, or piece of art that commemorates an
important person, object, pet, or event. The event I chose to
memorialise is leaving my home of Cape Town South Africa to study
in the United Kingdom, with a focus on memories of home. The
the project involves several phases: researching architectural follies
and their significance, selecting a meaningful subject, reflecting
on personal connections to that subject, and choosing a site of
personal importance. The project emphasizes how spatial design
can evoke memory and reflection.
